Dragonhide Gauntlets: the look of scale maille but with handknitted comfort, flexibility and warmth. The flame pattern of the scales on these fingerless gloves pay homage to the phoenix.
The shimmering gold, orange and red anodized aluminum scales are knitted in an overlapping pattern that covers the back of the hand and wrist. Sturdy golden yellow acrylic yarn forms the base of these gauntlets. The palm is scale free for comfort. The thumb holes allow this to be worn over the hand, or ignore the thumbholes and wear it higher on the wrist.
This pair is 6.5" in circumfrence and 6.5" long.

Four years ago I bought a bunch of metal scales intending to make armor. But I hated the tedium of linking each ring. The frugal part of me couldn't waste the scales so after much thought and experimentation Dragonhide knitted armor was born.
My etsy shop was just a little hobby before I introduced my technique. But oh, how it's taken off. Now it is a full time job. I knit scale armor several hours a day. When I'm not knitting I'm sewing from patterns I drafted. Mostly fantasy/renaissance accessories. When I'm not doing that I'm hitting estate sales searching out quality and vintage fabrics to use. (Latest find-vintage millinery trims of Victorian splendor.) In the little time left over I am a silversmith.
My designs often start with the fabric or in the case of sterling jewelry the stone. It almost tells me what it wants to be. Sometime a piece will sit for a couple of years until the perfect idea comes along.
