Fortunately with the conservationists like John Muir, President Teddy Roosevelt, Gifford Pinchot and several others the US led the world in setting aside land and waterlands to be protected by the Federal Government from development that would destroy their natural beauty. Yellowstone was the first National Park in the world created in 1872.
