This bracelet is rich and deep root beer colored bakelite like material and is heavily carved. This is a clamper bracelet so the back is hinged with a nice and tight brass hinge which is attached with rivets. It pulls open and "clamps" closed on the wrist. I far prefer the clamper style for comfort.
The carving features two large turtles--one on each side--and just above the turtles' heads are two sets of lips. In other words, when the bracelet clamps the lips kiss. The turbles have eyes. One of the eyes has a fixed pupil and this eye looks to be a tad smaller than the others. I believe this eye to be original and that the others were added to replace lost eyes. I'm can't be 100% positive of that but the one eye looks origial, fits in place and doesn't have any white on it. The eyes on one side are lighter than the other two, as if they were sun faded; both of these eyes have moving pupils.
This bracelet is in great condition with some minor scuffs and scratches you can see in the pics. The hinge is nice and tight and in excellent condition. I have not cleaned or polished this bracelet. And I've only worn it once for fear of damaging it. There are some little carved round things around the turtle and in the corner of the legs of the turtles that I think are supposed to be rocks; on these are some variations. Not sure if this is from chips or just carving. I does not distract at all.
This bracelet tested positive for bakelite, though I believe it to be bakelite style.
Measures: 2 1/2 inches diameter inside bracelet; 3/8 of an inch thick at the thickest part (lips); approximately 7 1/2 inches around the inside wall of bracelet; 1 2/8 inches wide (side to side).
