Fashioned after the old stone houses and windmills found in French villages, this little hermitage windmill is textured and painted in traditional stone colors and "weathered".
This design is inspired by a windmill found in Hauville, a commune in the Eure department in northern France. It is the oldest remaining windmill in Normandy and still functions to this day and is used to demonstrate the traditional milling of flour.
It was originally owned by the monks of the nearby Abbey of Jumièges ( which has been in ruins since the French Revolution)..
This little windmill reminds me of that simpler aspect of monastic life. So much of what we create today is just not an improvement over the old in my view.
The windmill can be used as a personal reminder upon an altar or a mantle or, since it has been intentionally constructed at HO scale size, it can be used with other buildings in the modeling of HO scale railroads and scenes.

The Hermitage Windmill will come in two pieces. The sails will come packed separately and are connected by inserting the sail peg into the front of the windmill's eaves.. No glue is required as it is a snug fit.
The windmill does not turn.
The Hermitage Windmill stands 5 1/2 inches tall (at the top of the sail paddles) and is 4 3/4 inches wide by 2 inches deep. The building itself is just 3 1/4 inches tall.
