When I saw this teapot, it was love at first sight. This piece needed some TLC - I didn't know tea stains could get so thick - but now it's a gorgeous example of art deco style. This teapot was made by Sudlow's Burslem; the pattern is called "Maple".

This pot has a history, and it shows. There's age crazing all over and staining in some of the craze marks (especially inside the pot, and in one mark in the gold section to the right of the handle). There's some wear to the gilt (especially in places which were often touched, such as the handle). There's also the occasional little pockmark in the glaze (created during the manufacturing process), as well as some other marks and stains. This beautiful piece is free of chips.

Judging by the style, condition and stamp, I believe this teapot was probably made in the 20's or 30's. The "Made in England" stamp was made compulsory in 1921 (although some potteries used it earlier), and Sudlow's ceased production in 1965.
