Title: "You're So Squirrely"
This squirrel is an 11"X14" mixed-media, collage painting on gallery wrapped canvas. My mixed-media paintings begin with adding and distressing multiple layers of acrylic paint. On top of that I begin adding layers of found paper collage, paint, colored pencil, charcoal, beeswax, and sometimes other found objects for a 3D effect.
This painting has a silly squirrel scampering across a tree branch. You can almost hear him scolding! I painted the squirrel on a piece of canvas, then collaged that piece onto the base. I also used found papers; real maple leaves, dried and pressed, and actual acorn caps. The surface is sealed in an acrylic coating. The edges of the canvas are painted - no need for a frame. It comes wired for hanging. Signed and dated (2009) by me.
