This beautiful and intricate piece developed from my obsession with coral/barnacle/fungus/seed pod shapes. I used a gorgeous secondhand wood frame as a base, coating it with several layers of deep blue paint paint (I believe this frame is quite old, it originally held a print of Civil War era fashions and was entirely constructed with small nails instead of tacks or staples) .Then I crocheted each individual piece with a crochet hook and turquoise yarn. Each piece was carefully arranged and glued onto the base. I used matching paint and yarn to create a dramatic monochromatic effect.
This piece is signed and ready to hang.
Measures approximately 13 x 15 inches (33 x 38 cm).
The wood base is gorgeous with beautiful scallops. Because this part of the piece is second hand there are a few imperfections, including one larger chip on the left side. I highlighted this chip in the last photo so you can see it. The paint does a good job of hiding any other flaws, but they may exist. The frame hangs picture wire style with its original hooks.
