The sophisticated palette of RISKY BUSINESS (deep red, black, gray and white) makes it a perfect accessory for the workday ... yet it's anything but tame!

Featuring a gorgeous, richly patterned focal stone of Cherry Orchard Jasper, the necklace includes beads of Onyx, Mookaite, White Moonstone, Grey Moonstone and faceted Czech glass. It closes with a Pewter bar and ring clasp.

19" long, excluding the focal stone.

MY PROCESS ...

In creating any necklace, I first select a focal piece, and then choose the various stones to complete it through an instinctive (and fun!) process. After lighting some incense and putting on some music that suits my mood that day (new age, world music, nature sounds, classical or soft jazz), I hold the pendant or focal stone in my hand as I look over ALL of the hundreds of types of stone beads in my collection, and choose several (way more than what will eventually be included - usually 20 or more types) that look and feel "right." Next, I narrow things down by repeating the process among the beads I first selected, and place handfuls of about a dozen different types in the old African Mancala game board I use as my beading palette. I then choose complementary glass seed beads (often used as spacers) and a clasp, and begin beading - entirely by instinct. Often, I will get to a certain point and begin over again, until the necklace that is meant to be reveals itself. Sometimes, I find that a stone I hadn't originally chosen is screaming to be included, and I always honor that. Not all of the stones in the final palette are used, and usually the piece turns out entirely differently than what I had originally envisioned. It is a process that feeds my soui. I am inspired by the colors and textures of the materials I work with, and by my spirit guides (all animals! - see my profile), as well as by the constant presence when I'm beading of my two beloved rescued dogs (O'Keeffe and Teddy) and a giant rescued Maine Coon cat named Sassafras, who rules the roost. All three love to be a part of the process.

ABOUT THE STONES:

JASPER - Healing; Nurturing; Protection

Jasper is strongly connected with the energies of the earth, and helps its wearer find stability and balance. It boosts the immune system and assists in extracting pollutants and toxins from the body. It is said to provide protection against negativity and to align the chakras. Jasper is often used to soothe the stomach and nerves and as a general body tonic. It works slowly and is most effective when used over a long period of time. With patience, anyone using Jasper will feel a continuity of spirit and body that can vastly improve both work and play.

MOOKAITE (Australian Jasper) - Healing

Australian Jasper (Mookaite) is a stone of regeneration and healing, with strong links to the Dreamtime. It provides a powerful shield against danger and helps the wearer process and deal with negative energy. As a Jasper, it has a beneficial effect on the blood and the kidneys. It can also be used in the treatment of stomach disorders and it aids in the prevention and healing of hernias. It also helps to relieve water retention. A stone of balance and harmony, Mookaite assists with decision making, guiding the user to the answer that is best for them at that point in time. It can also be used for discretion when helping others with their problems, and allows one to remain open and honest about new ideas. Mookaite is a great companion for those who are alone or just feeling lonely. For people who work with children or have children of their own, this is a brilliant stone to help one to understand why the child is behaving in a detrimental manner, and it enables one to modify this behavior to a beneficial state without the child noticing the change. Mookaite is also a great stone to help those who are kind to all except themselves, become kind to themselves too. It can help one to find employment, enhancing excitement and happiness toward the work situation. It can also be used to communicate with animals. Mookaite is said to enhance creativity and the ‘flow’ of new ideas, and also assists one to use these ideas in the appropriate manner to achieve maximum results. Indigenous Australian have used Mookaite as a stone for regeneration and healing the everyday wounds.

MOONSTONE - Calming; protection; love; connection with plants

Moonstone helps to cool, soothe and calm our emotions, and is associated with intuition, sensitivity and the feminine aspect of our nature. It enhances balance and introspection, and possesses reflective lunar energies that relate to new beginnings. It can help one focus on what's needed rather than what's wanted. Moonstone is believed to enhance psychic abilities. A gently protective stone, it is worn as a charm when traveling on or over the water. It can attract love, heal rifts between lovers and ensure restful sleep. As a healing stone, moonstone helps all parts of the lower torso, including digestive, cleansing and reproductive organs. If worn while gardening, it can help your plants and flowers to grow strong and healthy.
