up cycled and re used vintage fabric
some of it unpicked from old quilt tops, go to make these one of a kind house brooch pins.
Authentic vintage fabric is my passion - especially the 1930's and 40's. That era sings through me and echoes through everything. Rummaging for authentic material is a joy, and recalls a time when every scrap was indeed precious.
I adore fabric that is handed down, passed on and picked over.
Every scrap has a story, and now the story is
a little house brooch. Each one is unique, as sometimes there will only
be a 5cm square of fabric.
My little fabric houses are
directly inspired by Tim Winton's Cloudstreet.
The audio book was playing as I stitched,
listening to the magical happenings in that old house
and the lives of people inter twining.
Sometimes I will wear two or three, like a tiny village over my heart.
This one is in soft neutral tones with a hint of orange and blue from the feedsack roof. Stitched with white windows and doors so it will go with just about anything.
The back is felt and the brooch pin is stitched on. It is one of the larger ones, being
7cms 2.5 inches tall and 4.5 cms 1.5 inches wide. Perfect for a lapel.
