Beautiful design book... lay open any photo spread to admire both the beauty of the shells and the artistic nature of the photography.
The first section of the book relays man's relation to shells in history and culture. The following pages of shells are organized by shell family, with an identification of each shell shown written by Dr Abbott, an American conchologist (seashells) and malacologist (molluscs).

Color photographs are tipped in plates. Glassine tissue inserts separate page spreads where two color plates appear opposite each other. The black and white photos are printed on uncoated stock.
Dust jacket shows some surface wear and creasing, with a small tear close to the book spine. The protected blue and white cloth cover is clean with light soil on top edge, which is the same for the top edge of the inner pages. The book spine is tight, with minor wear to lower corner front cover cloth binding. The inside pages are clean and unmarked. There is a rare page or two which has a small bend (light crease) within the page.
