Here is an elegant 8" x 54" Habotai silk scarf, which is the shorter of the two sizes of scarves I carry. It is light weight enough to waft gracefully in the breeze, and long enough to knot loosely around your neck for a wonderfully stylish accent. I hand painted it with with high quality French Sennelier Tinfix dyes, using wet on wet watercolor techniques to create blended swirls of vibrant color. Then I added silk salt on the scarf while it dried, which pulled the dye into intricate organic shapes.
The scarf hung at least a day before being steamed for 3 hours, which set the dyes and made them permanent. After hanging for at least another 24 hours, it was washed to remove any excess dye. And then washed again for good measure. Then ironed dry, to bring out the natural sheen of the silk.
Hand wash in cool water, then iron dry.
Enjoy!
