Very hard to find cast iron firecracker mortar is marked in raised letters on the bottom. There is a large "K" in the center which is for Kilgore Mfg. Co. who made this in the late 1920's or 1930's. This was obviously well loved and used. The cast iron body was designed to have a standard firecracker placed in the lower part through a hole. Inside the casting, you would place this semi hard rubber ball. When the firecracker went off the ball shot up in the air about 100 feet! The original ball is included. A little dangerous to say the least 'Watch so you don't knock your eye out' (as his mother used to say to him)! Still has some of it's original paint. The ball has cracks, crazing, and some surface wear as shown. THIS IS NOT A TOY FOR CHILDREN - IT IS BEING SOLD AS AN EARLY COLLECTIBLE ITEM FOR ADULTS.
