This tiny box might hold anything. It was inspired by the introduction to a short story by Ursula LeGuin. I can't find the book these days, but here's a synopsis. Her daughter, who is quite young, walks up to her with a box. She says to her mother "guess whats in the boxsus" Her mother starts guessing. A bug? no. A leaf? no. After a while, she starts in on the silly stuff, elephants? No! that's silly, elephants wouldn't fit in this boxsus! Finally, the mother gives up and asks to see what is in the box. Her daughter opens it just the tiniest, most careful amount, and says, "look, see, it's darkness".

So years after reading that, I made this box to hold everything and nothing. It holds the whole universe, much of the time. It is very precisely one inch square. The lid closes half way down. As it opens, it reveals the bottom half, polished to a mirror shine and curved very carefully to always maintain a flush fit with the front edge of the lid. At about halfway open, it is stopped by tiny silver chains tied with thin silk thread.

Don't open it any further, you might let the universe out.
