Janelle Gramling
owner, maker, designer
Janelle Gramling is a self-taught artist living and working in Milwaukee, WI.
In 2005, she launched her label, Little Ocean, a romantic line of jewelry and women's and children's clothing hand-made with vintage and reclaimed materials. Also in 2005, in collaboration with other local artists and fashion designers, she opened a designer co-op and boutique in Milwaukee named Fasten. She managed and operated Fasten until 2009.
Janelle has recently dropped her Little Ocean moniker and is working toward a body of work as an artist exploring several mediums, while still creating wearables. In the fall of 2012, under the mentorship of her talented Mother-in-Law, Janelle picked up ceramics. Currently, her two biggest creative passions are nurturing her young relationship with clay through experimenting with small hand-built pots and jewelry peices, and hand-dyeing and discharging natural fibers with indigo and other dyes using shibori fold-and-bind techniques.
