This 'sold' once, here on Etsy, but the BUYER NEVER PAID for it so I have returned it to inventory.
I have two of these 1920s / 1930s era dresses to list today, both from the same estate, and the first thing you have to know is that they were the dress-up gowns of choice for two little girls in the 1960s. (Not me! My own youthful indiscretions were committed on different old finery...)
So there are various issues. BUT. As you will see, the cut, lines, materials and rare awesome designs make these worthy of a 2nd and 3rd look and serious consideration. Convo me with your email address if you need additional pics.
Like the other, this is hand tailored, with a mixture of hand and machine sewn seams and elements. The large ruby red rhinestone jewels are prong set, with square metal settings in the back and the prongs sent though the material.
The crazy quilt beads and beaded rosettes are hand beaded in crystal and silver bugle beads. Fitted waist, flaring skirt with two pleats in front, and a bias cut waist in the back. Hand hemmed in some of the most precise stitching I've ever seen ... a pro sewed this.
Pleated crepe drapes from the wide, beaded shoulder straps, front to back, creating an elegant almost ancient Grecian or Roman look.
My model is young ... try to imagine this gown draped over a bust line.
GOOD NEWS (besides the design): there's only one tiny hole, no bad seams, no missing rhinestones, no smoke or bad odors.
ISSUES: Front bodice and drape: 5 or 6 small (pea or smaller) light stains. Back bodice & drape: a pea sized stain on one side, and (pictured): light rusty stains at the edge and occasionally across the other side. Beading and rhinestones: I'm seeing 3 or 4 short (3/4" or less) strands that are loose and one that is gone in the bugle beads, all rhinestones are accounted for. Skirt: small 1/4", not exactly a hole yet, but an oval thinning that shows like a hole against the window light; some light stains, a rusty stain section at the hem, about 1-1/4" wide and 2" high, spotty like the bodice rusty stain pictured.
MAIN ISSUE: this dress has spent some time up against something damp and pink, which is more obvious on the front. Long, pale, faint pink tints run up and down, especially near the seams and pleats. Faint, but there.
Can it be cleaned? I don't know. Have I tried to clean it? No. Is it wearable as-is? OH YES, see pics. This is drop dead gorgeous antique designer wear. ONE OF A KIND, about 80 to 90 years old.
