I have been building musical chests for years - Shown here is a whitewashed finish and primary colored keys. The wood used is the wonderful Red Alder, domestically harvested and delightfully musical in nature. A common stain choice is cherry as well. And the natural light color of Alder makes for a wonderful modern look, if a clear finish is used.
While this box has a youthful style to it, please note that many big people have enjoyed this chest in their very adult lives. I'd be glad to build one to your old and stodgy specifications.
BUILT TO ORDER - Please allow a few weeks for construction. The photo here is a for a chest I built a few weeks back for a family out east. It depends a bit on how busy the shop is, but three weeks is safe. I can also send out a glossy photo if it is purchased as a gift for an upcoming date. Many of these have been purchased as gifts with much success.
SHIPS UPS - I pack them carefully in a custom box and all you need to do is assemble the box part as the keyboard arrives fully assembled. (simple, smart hardware with instructions). You will however need to think up some songs to play when its complete.
