This brooch was inspired by brooches from the Merovingian dynasty and the Visigoths dating back to around 600 A.D. This style of brooch was popular through out Europe and Briton. The Anglo-Saxons had a similar version to this brooch but the "tail" is usually squared. This version as you see above has a triangular "tail" or pointed tip which is in the style of the Franks and Visigoths. The Franks also used silver and gold gilt often where as in other cultures these pins were commonly made of base metals or bronze.
