Have you ever had the opportunity to look at a field of ripened wheat waving in the wind? The texture of the heads of grain and the movement as they dance in the breeze, criss-crossing back and forth is a simple beauty. I have used that texture and movement as my inspiration for creating this artistic interpretation of a field of wheat as a bead woven and embroidered cuff. If you look closely at the seed kernels, they form a pattern very like the herringbone bead weaving stitch which is what I used in two different sizes and four different shades of amber seed beads to cover the cuff.
The bead work is attached to an aluminum cuff base and lined with brown leather. The cuff measures about 1 1/4 inches wide and is about 6 inches long. It will fit an average adult wrist and the aluminum base allows for some fitting flexibility.
Wheat Wave was created for the June/July 2011 Kansas Etsy Team challenge, "Amber Waves of Grain".
