About This Item
This ring is part of my new series of pieces inspired by historical shield forms. The shield is about 1 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inch across. Made of darkened sterling silver with brass studs, it was inspired by the curved, rectangular shields carried by soldiers in ancient Roman legions.
This type of shield offered almost full body protection. Legionaries could tightly overlap their shields to create "the tortoise formation", the perfect protection from missile and arrow attacks. The last picture shows a very rare 3rd century CE example housed at the Yale University Art Gallery.
Please allow three to five days for the creation of your ring. If you need it quickly, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your schedule. Each piece is handmade so slight variations may occur.
