The bird, tree, head and hands are sculpted in paperclay and painted with many layers of watercolor and acrylic. They are sealed from the elements with matte varnish. Thumblina is fully posable with a wire, wood and batting armature. Her hair is long, red mohair and her dress is knitted with handspun and hand dyed wool (onion skins and madder). The hand-worked wool lends a lovely organic, subtle variation of color and texture. Her shoes are made from nubby, natural fiber paper.
This enchanting scene is nestled in a solid, cherry stained and varnished box with 2 holes in the back for hanging from nails in the wall, or else it could easily sit on a shelf or mantle.
The box measures 10x10"
