Here at Historic Flooring, we believe that necessary furniture pieces like this can (and should) be beautiful as well as functional. Our ladders are used by clients to access a variety of spaces including lofts, libraries, bunk beds and boat cabins. Rather than trying to hide your ladder away from your guests' eyes, you'll want to showcase this handcrafted, antique wooden Ladder!
Here's how it works -- You choose the type of wood you want and then our very skilled carpenters go to work building these multi-purpose Ladders by hand. We typically measure our Ladders beginning 30" from the supporting wall of the existing space you want to access, which can then be adjusted for space requirements or personal preference. The top step of the Ladder will be even with the floor of the accessed space and will have an additional 12-15" of handrail extending for user safety.
These custom crafted Ladders feature hand-pegging inside each tread, and rabbit joints cut into the side rails. The Ladders are made from solid wood with porthole handles and come standard 18" outside width with a 4" tread (step). The treads are screwed, not nailed, to the rail for strength and durability. We then add a wooden "peg" of matching or specified finish to cover the screw. The 70-degree angle of the foot treads allow for ultimate flexibility, comfort, and safety, no matter how far the distance from the wall!
The weight-bearing capacity of our Ladders has also been tested repeatedly; the Ladder's integrity and safety remained intact even bearing weights up to 300 lbs. As an additional safety and balance factor, the shaped hand rails on either side are 1" thick and add a distinctive streamlined beauty to this piece. The Ladders are hand-sanded and come in your choice of stains and finishes. Ladders can be made out of any exotic or hard wood, including mahogany, maple, birch, cherry, and black walnut for an additional cost.
These ladders provide safe and sturdy access up to those hard-to-reach places, but require minimum space for setting up and storage which makes them a perfect choice for those space-restricted areas of your home or business.
