This charming quilt block was found at the estate sale of an old lady quilter. The fabrics likely date back to the 1940s and many in the set show seams and other signs of being cut from old clothing. The hexagonal "Grandma's Flower Garden" pattern was neatly cut and lovingly hand-stitched from bright orange, textured cream, and brilliant vintage plaid fabrics. I machine quilted and appliqued this block onto a background of upcycled denim jeans. A lining is made from reused deep maroon cotton and features extra pockets perfect for small sundries like wallet, cell phone and keys. A shoulder strap is made from soft red and white striped cotton. A pair of small straps and vintage red flower buttons close the top and keep things inside. A charming and functional ode to old-fashioned upcycling!
