Blade: 6" Overall: 10+1/2" Thickness: 3/16" Comes razor sharp in hand made leather sheath.
The story: Well, I made two of these fish knife blades in the shop, the first one to be finished had a pinkish maple handle that seemed appropriate to a rainbow trout, so I carved one on the sheath. It was well received and sold right away.
That summer I caught rainbows like gangbusters and could hardly keep 'em off my line! By the end of the season, however, I had grown jaded to these agile, but small sport fish. I decided then and there that the quest for a bigger fish started now: I added these very heavy-duty, nearly indestructible, black Micarta® handle scales on fish knife number two and (optimistically perhaps) carved the likeness of the terrifying Dunkleosteus, a 33 foot long, four ton armored fish from the devonian period about 380 million years ago, on the sheath. I haven't caught one... yet... but then, I didn't start catching rainbow trout until the first knife sold. Help a poor, bored fisherman out and I'll promise to save you a "dunky" fillet when I finally land that monster (unless it eats me first)! ;)
