I made this fantastical "Lamb Swan in a Mushroom Garden with Elves" cake sculpture as a tiny fantasy world inhabited by exotic members of the animal and plant world. The garden is populated by a little brown chipmunk, a blue rooster, a chick hatching from an egg, a pink rabbit and three green elves, who are frolicking amongst smaller toadstools that I created from plastic egg bases and faux icing caps. I used a Pez dispenser for the swan's head and a little white rabbit-baby is sitting in a tiny green nest on his back. This garden, where I think Dr. Seuss would be very happy, is also populated by three trippy handmade faux icing magic mushrooms (one of them with a tiny plastic baby sprouting out of the top) - and tiny lucite flowers sprinkled around the ground.

This sculpture is constructed on a 2 x 10 inch dense styrofoam base and stands about 7 inches tall to the top of the Lambswan's flowered hat. This cake sculpture is comprised of various shades of green, blue and pink, with dashes of orange, red and yellow. Part of the fun of owning a cake sculpture is finding a cool cake stand to display it on, or using an heirloom stand that has been passed down through the family. They are also really fun displayed on small turntables or display motors.

All the icing on my sculptures is created from high quality acrylic artist materials, from a formula I've developed over the last 30 years, and the colors are hand mixed by me from acrylic paint and extremely colorfast. My cake sculptures are a time consuming process as I start by tracking down interesting vintage cake toppers, plastic toys, lucite and celluloid decorations, and anything else that I like that is washable. I then ice the sculptures by layering multiple layers of faux icing over several days, or weeks - and I make all the faux sugar roses, or other faux icing decorations, like medallions, in advance. These sculptures are washable with soapy water (you will receive washing instructions with your purchase) and will come to you signed and dated on the bottom.

I view cake decorating as a wonderful craft that can also be an eclectic art form - one that I have been using intermittently for the last 30 years to create these quirky cake sculptures. I love the traditional, colorful and mostly plastic cake topper decorations I find (both vintage and new) that I use to create these one-of-a-kind sculptures.
