Alexandrite is a rare, exotic gemstone that changes color in different lights. It will appear green or blue in some lighting and change to red or purple in other lighting.
This is a one of a kind design, which I created as an entry for a Design Challenge hosted by the Metal Clay Heads Team, using Silver metal clay. The theme for the Challenge is "Magical or Mysterious" and the technique required was to include a moveable hinge.
The hinge on this pendant moves smoothly open and closed and will stay closed by balanced weight until pressed open. The hidden treasure is meant to be what I imagined a woodland fairy might collect and stash behind a leaf.
The pendant is about an inch long and the setting includes 4 round genuine Alexandrite gems. I used Silver Art Clay, which is recycled silver that is in the form of clay. I thinned it to paint the backs of real leaves, letting nature be the "mold" for the shape and detail.
Included is an 18" sterling silver chain and the necklace is gift boxed, ready to ship!
