Crocheted Plush Neuron with Multiple Sclerosis Damage

Crocheted neuron - the orange ball represents the nucleus, the surrounding blue area is the cell body, or 'soma', with dendrites branching off. The orange and pink bands represent myelin sheaths, and at the tail end are axon terminals. In MS, the body's own immune system attacks and damages the myelin. When myelin is lost, the axons can no longer effectively conduct signals.

Here you can see the damaged myelin sheaths revealing; some are full of holes, some are scarred, some are unraveling altogether (these will not really unravel, I've secured the ends)
