The build quality of this Swiss-made lighter from the 1930s is incredible. Well-known for their audiophile quality turntables, it's lesser-known Thorens started as a music box manufacturer (in 1883) and produce high-quality pocket and table lighters from 1913 until the mid 1960s. The rock-solid reliability and limited availability of Thorens lighters (they were never mass produced in volume like Ronsons, Zippos, Colibri, etc), makes them highly sought after by collectors -- like me. In fact, the only reason I'm selling this piece is because I own an almost exact duplicate.

This lighter mechanism works great and is in very good condition. It will be shipped with a flint and without fluid. (Please do not store this lighter with the flint though, as it will deteriorate and become impacted over time.) Its firing mechanism has been cleaned, re-wicked using NOS stock, freshly packed, and generally restored to full working order. I've hand polished all exterior elements of the lighter insert, cleaned the onyx base, and reattached the felt pad on its base. Its fuel chamber is huge. The thick onyx base is hollow and packed with cotton wadding. I only partially filled it for testing purposes. I'd guess a full filling will last for months, maybe even a year.

This Thoren does have two cosmetic flaws best seen in the fifth photo. There is a chip on the radiused top edge of the onyx base and the decorative red cover is missing from the firing release button. (The mechanism works fine, the cover is strictly decorative.) These models are typically valued between $60-$80; I'm offering a lower price because of these minor flaws. I've provided high quality photos to offer the best preview of this piece. Please take a look and feel free to ask any questions.
