Antique Victorian English sterling locket. Large, ornately chased floral piece with curved linear overlays. Interior opens to two windows for pictures, both with perfect glass panes and frames intact. Elegant oversize bail wide enough to fit a range of necklaces. The locket closes with a quiet click, and stays closed. Smooth, domed back with a single, subtle dent. Beautiful deep old smoky patina with a brightly contrasting polish to its peaks. Made in the city of Birmingham, England, in 1895. Signed B&C. I haven't found documentation of this precise signature, though by its date and initials, it is likely Bewlay & Co Ltd, a firm founded in 1797. The firm eventually became a subsidiary of Finlay & Co Ltd (tobacconists, confectioners, etc.)
Counting the bail, the piece is a full 6 cm tall, 2 3/8 inch. The width is 33 mm, 1 5/16 inch.
