This is a limited edition series. Only 15 have been made, only 10 are available for sale, and they're the only 10 that will be sold (the other 5 are artist proofs for me to keep and exhibit). Get 'em while they're hot!
Each piece is signed, dated, and editioned on the back. See the second photo for the template reference.
==About the process and materials.art==
Each image is transferred by hand to an Ampersand Artist Panel using acrylic gel medium. Ampersand Artist Panels are made from archival medium density fiberboard (MDF). For your full convenience and confidence in purchasing this artwork, please take a moment to read more about the board's construction on Ampersand's website:
http://www.ampersandart.com/tips/archivalinfo.html
The panels measure 8x8 inches with a 3/8 inch depth. The panels feature a hanging slot on the back for quick and easy hanging; just put a nail or screw in the wall and you're ready to go!
As a result of the vigorous scrubbing necessary to the process, each image will naturally feature scuffs and abrasions which, while themselves uncontrolled, are a natural and important part of the pigment transfer process. See the third image for a detailed view of these effects.
Please note the image on each panel will not be pristine and crisp as with a traditional print. There will be defects, but they are meant to be there, not least because each image's defects will be completely different from the rest, further emphasizing each piece's uniqueness!
Upon completion of the transfer process, each transfer panel is sealed with 2 coats of water based isolation medium to protect the transfer surface from scratching and/or staining. Please be sure to keep this image out of direct sunlight, and for the very best protection the artwork can be framed under UV-resistant plexiglass or sprayed with a Mineral Spirits Acrylic UV-Protective Varnish. Be sure to consult a professional regarding either framing or varnishing.
Also, the 8x8 inch panel size is a common frame size, thereby making framing less of a hassle and much cheaper than custom framing! For instance, this gel transfer would look mighty slick in one of those IKEA Ribba frames, wouldn't it? Yeah it would!
==The story behind the image.txt==
I had been meaning to make this piece for about a year after I began notcing the Twin Towers in backgrounds of various videogames. I liked the idea of how pre-September 11th games now carry an unintentional political/emotional charge if they contain any images of the twin towers.
I am intrigued by how that kind of worldwide trauma even finds its way into the most innocuous corners of our experience. There's a kind of echo that happens whenever we see images of the twin towers in old movies, photos, anything, even video games; it's a kind of sad "well, there it is, we know what's coming". You can get all the juicy little details and happy accidents in my flickr post about the original image:
