These sturdy, well-shaped mini bottle gourds are from my own organically grown harvest and are the actual gourds you'll receive. They range from approx. 2 1/2 - 2 3/4" tall. Gourds are not cleaned.
To clean gourd shell for painting: Put gourds in a bowl of water for a minute or two- hot or at least warm water loosens the outer skin more quickly than room temp. Adding a cap-full of bleach is optional. You may want to weigh them down with a plate. Use a metal scrubby and gently rub in a circular motion until they are clean. Rubbing too hard may create scratches. Rinse, let dry and you're all set.
TIP for Painting: After cleaning and drying, lightly sand the shell with 400 to 600 grit sandpaper, removing dust with a cloth for a glassy smooth finish- paint will glide on beautifully!
Markings can be retained for primitive folk art or country look, by leaving natural, as. Or you can wax or apply a spray finish over the markings.
