In the North, it's very common to see a "welcome" mat at the entrance to a home. In the South, folks just come right out and say "hey y'all" no matter where you're going. In North Carolina, and even Florida, there is something warmer (no pun intended) about greeting each other on a day-to-day basis that you don't always find in other parts of the country.
