Betsey Johnson went to work for the Alley Cat label in 1970, where she had full creative control over everything (the label is probably even one of her sketches). The Alley Cat clothes were designed for young women, and they were innovative and funky, and Johnson was the youngest designer to ever win a Coty Award, in 1971.

This 1970's dress by Johnson takes the classic Peasant dress and turns it on its side, by making it in electric hot pink.

This has a lace up neck closure and flounce at the hem, with embroidery in dark green, red, yellow, and aqua blue.

The sleeves are long with puffed sleeves and there is a attached matching sash belt which can be wrapped around the body twice, or worn with a long bow.

The dress is not lined and there are no closures. The fabric feels like rayon or silk.
