Desert Dreamer is one of my Goddess Necklaces and she is full of whimsy and magic. She is made up of many handmade wire links that give her a lot of movement and fluidity. There are so many wonderful components in this necklace that I can't wait to tell you about them all!
This is the first piece I've made that incorporates silk, which I think adds a really neat touch. The 3 colors of silk are braided together, looped through 2 brass trade rings, then wired on with copper wire and accented with brass beads. It is a solid band of silk behind the neck with no clasp -- just pull it over your head. Please *Note* - the silk is not colorfast and may bleed when wet so please don't wear this one in the rain! (or bath, shower, lake, kiddie pool.... you get the idea). The colors in this piece are the least running when I tested them with water, but they did bleed a little bit after 5 minutes of sitting wet.
Two more brass rings adorn the chain, along with faceted turquoise, aquamarine, carnelian, aventurine, apatite, bone, and hammered brass spirals. The links are handmade from copper and brass wire, with the focal teardrop shape hammered to give it a sparkly texture. Within the hammered portion is lovely piece of turquoise bordered by 2 smaller brass rings. Below hangs the serpentine Goddess herself, green kyanite, sunstone, faceted amber, rutilated quartz, and a carnelian "fire agate" bead that is a favorite of my collection. A turquoise donut also hangs below and it as the appearance of being dug out of an ancient archeological site. I love it's character, as I do in this whole piece.
Desert Dreamer runs 25 inches in length to the upper cross piece and 30 inches to the pendant. You can even tie a knot in the silk, while worn, and wear it shorter. I really enjoy it's versatility in this way and look forward to making more silk neck pieces. Thanks so much for looking!
