Calcium oxalate crystals are pretty little things that are also fairly common in human urine. Usually they do not indicate any sort of disease state. Simply eating a lot of vegetables can cause these crystals to occur in your pee. However, in some instances (such as ethylene glycol poisoning or kidney stones) they can be clinically significant. They show up in urine with a pH below 7.0 and can take several forms. I like the envelope (dihydrate) forms seen here the best.
The pattern for the Pee Towel is an original design of mine that was printed by Spoonflower on linen-cotton canvas and then sewn into a 12" x 21" kitchen towel. It would make a great gift for the laboratorian in your life!
