Victorian Brown Silk Taffeta Bonnet -- Civil War Reenactment
From ThreadsOfMeaning
This is a silk taffeta hand stitched bonnet. It appears to me to be circa 1880 or so. I is a beautiful toasty brown color, like fallen oak leaves. It is completely hand stitched onto a linen lining and fastens with silk ribbon ties in a striated brown/beige and blue pattern. This is the type of bonnet that would be worn as a cap in the house and outside the house would sit under a larger brimmed straw bonnet. It is definitely more of a city girl bonnet. It is a beautiful remnant of a former time as a display, but because it is such excellent shape it could also be worn for your period piece costume or for a Civil War Reenactment.
