My grandparents had a house built of soil, rocks and wood. Water had to be brought every day from a spring, floor made of true wood boards, fire stove brought the comfort and warmth, especially while you are watching fire while the fresh loaf of bread is in the over baking with unforgettable smell tickles all of your senses.
I was five when my Granddad passed, but I still have some of the dishes he made from wood. Appreciation of wood never faded, on the contrary, and I am very, very lucky to be able to do two jobs I love dearly: being a biologist and a woodworker. They complement each other. Another important thing I have to stress is my dedication to reducing our carbon foot, our negative impact to Nature. Eco-etsy team is absolutely amazing and I am proud to belong to that family!
This particular piece of Cherry has been salvaged from the firewood. It has been carefully cut and finely sanded before manually woodburning mandala design on it, the one previously done here:

I really find that traditional Samanid design perfectly balanced and beautiful. At the end, board has been cured with food safe conditioner and signed at the bottom. It is over 12" long, in average 6" wide, a little over 1.5" tall if feet are taken into consideration.
With love,
Tanja
