This Red Power Ranger has morphed into a lovely red rug. It is hand woven of recycled bedsheets; one was a lovely set of bright red and the other two full sets of Mighty Morphin Power Ranger kids sheets. The ranger sheets have red, blue and yellow on a field of white and create a bright accent to the solid red.

The warp is composed of alternating wide stripes of natural and turkey red accented with black. It is a cotton warp.

"Hit or Miss" is a very traditional technique for reusing the smallest of leftover pieces of fabric. Because of this it is very labor intensive. I usually fillet 50 or 60 shirts to get a nice big batch of colors. Those are then cut into strips, which are sewn together sort of intentionally randomly and woven.

I abhor waste, and as a result some of the pieces are as short as four inches. This only allows me to do one or two hit or miss batches per year. I love the festival of colors and the return to the roots of rag rug weaving, one of the oldest forms of recycling

All my rugs are woven on a large vintage rug loom built in 1942. The whole house shakes when I am weaving. The designs are my own and I have won several awards for my work. I use all recycled materials in my wefts and either cotton or polyester warp. My rugs are machine washable in warm or cool. It is best to line dry. Give the fringe a good shake to straighten it and hang over a clothesline or rail. This rug will last a good many years with a bit of care.
