Ah, the butterfly: Nature's style of comedic irony in allowing something so fragile to exist. Take a moment to consider the fact that a simple spray of water spells doom for many butterflies. But what do we have here? Here are butterflies that tempt fate! How? By displaying an ocean map on their wings. These daredevil butterflies provoke karma by representing a huge body of water, when they themselves are certainly not waterproof. See how there are two butterflies? There used to be three. The third butterfly was acting arrogant, so I taught it a lesson, as a warning to the other two.
Each butterfly is hand-folded by me. The design is used with permission from the creator, Rikki Donachie. The base is assembled from an all natural rock and raffia by my mother, Tanja Sova (tanjasova.etsy.com).
No butterflies were actually harmed in the making of this sculpture.
