Make Gocco screen prints in this day long workshop run by Xtina Lamb at her studio in Clerkenwell, London.
You'll be using the Japanese 'Print Gocco' machine and supplies to create screens from your own artwork, mounting the screen mesh onto a frame, and printing with a squeegee. You'll also try out the Thermofax and Riso Screenfax machines to make screens without using Gocco bulbs, and experiment with texture screens and hand cut stencils. Choose whether to print onto cards, paper, notebooks or textiles.
All the tools and materials that you need will be provided and the screens you make are yours to take away, so you can carry on printing at home.
WORKSHOP INCLUDES:
- Create and keep a postcard sized Gocco screen made from your own artwork. You can reuse the screen at home with regular screen printing supplies.
- Print onto pre-cut cards and exercise books

Print Gocco is a small scale system for making short runs of prints. Gocco machine models such as the B6 and PG-11 are designed to make up to about 200 or 300 postcard sized prints inside the machine. But you can also use Gocco machines to expose screen mesh and then screen print outside the machine, as we will in this workshop.
Print Gocco was hugely popular in the 80s in Japan, where there is a tradition of hand making New Year’s cards. Now the rest of the world’s craft community has fallen in love with Gocco, but sadly just as the production of machines and supplies has stopped. It is hoped that another company will someday pick up production of the machines and consumables, but for now the future of Gocco is uncertain.
Join this workshop either to learn a different way to use a Gocco machine, or to catch a bit of history before they people who still own Gocco supplies start to keep them in a safe!
