10" x 10"
Acrylic & Printer Ink on Board
One of a series of 16 paintings/prints made for the show "Ed goes Pop!" at the Americana Vineyards & Winery in Interlaken, NY (August 2011).
So I got to thinking, what would a portrait artist influenced by Andy Warhol and modern technology paint today. These works are my answer. Created on 10" x 10" pieces of gessoed masonite, each piece was double-primed and painted in the underlying background color, while a "reverse" print, generated from a laser jet printer, was applied using some citrasolv and lots of elbow grease. The resulting work(s) is a print, laid down on a painted surface, acting as a functional QR Code which takes the user to my web site, edmarion.com.
Part Shepard Fairey's "Obey Giant," part Andy Warhol's "Fright Wig," these works transport the user and their smartphone to the online world of the artist and the years of traditional self-portraiture behind these works.
