I was actually inspired to create this pillow while sitting on the beach, with my samples of organic cotton. I looked around me at the textures of wet and dry sand, at the grainy effect where the lighter black volcanic sand had washed into waves. Then I looked at my squares of cotton and tried match them to find the same effect. Two of the squares are crossweaves, where the warp is a different color from the weft creating a grainy texture, another is natural linen and the fourth is unfinished calico, which is also used on the back. All of them contain slight irregularities and defects adding to the natural feel.
