Condition issues: Distinct crease down the middle, the center fold of the page. Tiny holes along crease from where pages were sewn in binding. Moderate age-tanning to paper.
Please note: Image 1 here shows entire double-page spread; Image 2 shows better how the colors really look.
Size: Page is approximately 14-3/4 x 9-7/8 inches. The reverse is text and some small illustrations.
Lively, colorful illustration depicting various summer dining and recreation options during the hot weather of June, July, August, and September. Al fresco meals -- picnic, barbecue, courtside, and even on a city fire escape -- are the way to go! Cute images of mosquitoes and a mint julep, too.
The noted American author-illustrator team of Alice and Martin Provensen created more than 50 children's books, among other projects, and were twice awarded the Caldecott Medal. Martin designed Kellogg's Tony the Tiger character.
"The Fireside Cook Book" is chock-full of the Provensens' witty artwork, and is a really nice general cookbook (1,217 recipes!) with 1940s flair. It's worth seeking out a good used copy. This copy wasn't good, but I couldn't let such fine pictures go to waste.
This handsome page of vintage illustration and culinary history would look wonderful framed! Fun seasonal decor for kitchen, restaurant, or vacation home!
