The accents are transparent pale blue lampwork glass beads. Created by Pittsburgh artist here on Etsy – SueBeads. They are paired with some small, faceted, golden yellow agate stones. These are wrapped into a sterling silver cable chain.
The chain is hand finished with a 12mm sterling silver lobster clasp closure with the golden yellow agate stone accents.
This necklace has a oxidized patina that brings out the detail and character of the components. It has been hand polished for a rustic matte finish.
Length: The chain is 28 inches long with the focal pieces hanging about another 1.5 inches past that.
Smoky Quartz Focal: 1 3/8 inches x 5/16 (34x9mm)
The inspiration: The inspiration was the beads in this piece. They all seemed to want to come together. The pale blue glass beads I had purchased from Sue back in 2009. Like all my great finds and treasures I had to hoard them for a while, admiring their beauty.
The agate beads I have used in a few projects. I love the variegated earthy colors they contain. Some deeper golden, some lighter, some with more brown tones.
The chain I used has become a staple in my studio. One of my favorites, it’s not too heavy but large enough that you can see it’s details.
The smoky quartz stone came from a bead and gem show I attended last fall. I hemmed and hawed about these beads for the entire day. Not sure I wanted to splurge as they were a large dollar purchase. The entire strand of beads are all different in size and shape. And each one is flawed and contains some chips cracks or other character. I just fell in love with them. And in speaking to the seller she explained that they are perfect in their own right, as they are “from the Earth”. I instantly knew then that I had to have them.
As always, all metal work is done by hand by me in my studio. All metals used are genuine sterling silver. My jewelry comes packaged ready for giving.
