We believe that he was manufactured as a souvenir for Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. He was made to be sold at the Circus and at toy stores.
We cannot find a maker's mark on it, but we have been told by ebay member "powerpuffgals" that he is unmistakably a STEIFF doll, made in postwar Germany during reconstruction.
What makes him so rare is... He's a giant, 28 inches tall (70cm).
The size of a ventriloquist's dummy!
He is plush with a vinyl head.
We believe that he dates from the early 1950s.
Powerpuffgals told us that this doll has a reputation for being haunted. It may be the original inspiration for Chuckie! Here's a link:
Condition is exactly as depicted in the photos. His hands are a little dirty.
All original, including the hat!
