As amber is a natural "gemstone", or rather, fossilized tree resin, it varies greatly from piece to piece. I hand select each amber for this turtle pendant, ensuring that it has inclusions. Color will vary from cognac to a lighter honey shade, and so it may vary slightly from the photos.
My second design, I hand carved this little turtle out of wax. Though he's only 1" long, there is a nice amount of sterling silver, almost 8 grams.
Turtles, in ancient symbolism represent creation, endurance, strength, stability, and a gentle innocence. They offer protection and good fortune, and are considered sacred in many cultures.
The mythical turtle is a creature of two elements; land and sea and as such she reflects an ability to adapt and flourish in any environment.
Those who bear the symbol of the turtle carry the responsibility of caring for, protecting, and nurturing others.

All of the FantaSea designs are original copyrighted designs. Each piece in the Sea Turtle Collection is made using the lost wax casting process. For those who love to learn about these ancient artisanal arts please see the following paragraph for more information on this magical process.
Each of my designs begins it's journey by being hand carved and sculpted in wax, or fabricated from hand forged metal. A mold is made of the original model or sculpture. An identical wax is obtained, from injection into this rubber mold. The wax or waxes are sprued and fused onto a base. Then a metal flask, which resembles a short length of steel pipe is put over the sprue base and the waxes. Investment (refractory plaster) is mixed and poured into the flask, filling it. It hardens, then the wax is burned out. Precious Metal is melted in a crucible, then poured carefully into the shell, filling in the negative space where the wax once was through the sprue. Once filled and cooled, the shell is hammered or sand-blasted away, releasing the rough casting. The sprues, which are also created in metal, are cut off, and the newly cast piece is sanded and polished until it's perfect!
