A Little About the Process
Knowing that these chairs are somewhat hard to come by (especially in good condition) and the fact that we had five of them, we really wanted to do something special. With a desire to tie into their naval history, we settled on modern military to the max. The first order of business was to remove the armrests, seats and seat backs to sand down the aluminum on each chair, removing all the grime, grit and minimal scratches. This was a long, grueling process. Once they were to our satisfaction, we wiped them down and clear-coated them. Next, we cleaned up the armrests and re-attached them. The existing foam had seen better days, so it was all replaced with brand new foam. We used authentic military wool as our fabric choice, but we felt we could kick up the military style even further. We custom screen-printed a modern, yet distressed, chevron design in red and white on the seat backs and a small red accent strip on the front left corner of each seat. From there, we reupholstered the seats and the seat backs, and viola, new life!
