I just love making fiber pieces based on clusters of organic shapes. I am inspired by barnacles, sea coral, fungus, seed pods, and all types of things found in nature.
I hand crochet each individual "pod" and "coral" piece, then arrange each one onto a secondhand wood base that has been painted to coordinate. In this case, the base was painted dark gold. I find all of my bases at local secondhand stores, so each one is unique.
The yarn I chose for this piece is just lovely! The chunky yellow is very soft organic cotton - it reminds me of buttered popcorn! The dark gold is a hand dyed cotton from Peru. Both are just amazing to work with and touch!
This piece measures approximately 6.25 x 8.25 inches (16 x 21 cm).
