part of my lily dale series, (the largest community of spiritualist mediums, which i visited one year ago today) this piece marks my interest in victorian spiritualism and how it has thrived in the shadows of modern society. seances were made popular in the mid 1800's and consisted of a group of people who encircled a table, often holding hands, in the candle lit darkness to communicate with the 'other side' or the spirit world. these gatherings were popular during the victorian era, and it's said even president abraham lincoln participated in them during his presidential term, in the white house.
this act of communicating with the spirit world is also a metaphor for communicating with one's self, the unconscious, or the shadowy pieces we only catch a glimpse of from time to time.
the hands of the cuff measure 1 1/2 inches long and are mostly hollow in the back for weight balance.
each cuff is handmade to order, please send along your wrist measurements // circumference of wrist. generally this piece can also be worn high on the forearm, as shown in the last picture of artist charmaine olivia wearing the cuff.
please allow 2-3 weeks for shipment time as this is a one lady show. if this is a gift, please contact me ahead of time.
xoxo
