What exactly is Goldstone?
Goldstone is commonly sold as a semi precious stone and is known as a gemstone, but in fact it’s not a stone at all. It is a man-made glittery glass. It sparkles because of little bits of copper that are suspended in it.
Goldstone originated in Italy in the early 1800’s and was said to have been discovered by an Italian Monk. The recipe was a carefully guarded secret which was carefully handed down through time.
Although goldstone is still popular today, it reached huge popularity during the Victorian era, when it was used in jewelry such as brooches and necklaces.
Today goldstone is still manufactured by a single monastic community in Italy, and though it is also made elsewhere, it remains their main source of income.
As well as copper color goldstone, it also made in green and blue colors.
