The end of the wire is filled to be smooth, so you can't use it as a real safety pin.
The earrings measure around 3/4"(18mm)long and 1/4"(6mm)wide. They are the smallest safety pin earrings ever. It may take you a few seconds to put them on because they barely go through your piercings, but once they are in your ears, they stay put! They are the most comfortable and earrings to sleep in.
